Warm and Cozy Witchcraft For the Lammas Holiday Season
Warm and Cozy Witchcraft for the Lammas Holiday Season covers the magical properties of sunflowers, farm-to-table foods, and farmhouse-style decorations with Plants by Laurali! When I think of Lughnasadh, I think of the first harvest, corn dollies, and the fruit of our labors. It feels like all our hard work is about to pay off!
Most of all, I think of warm and cozy witchcraft to get us through the holiday season! The Lammas Holiday Season is in full swing, and it’s best to take advantage of it while you can.
The Lammas Holiday starts on August 1st and transitions slowly to Mabon Season in September. I consider this time of year to be the transitional point between summer and the coming of fall.
During this time, you might begin to see the first inklings of autumn. You may be able to feel it in the air. Times are changing, and you just can’t pinpoint where it’s coming from.
The dog day cicadas are singing their song, indicating that summer is being left behind, while autumn is closing in. This is a time of the in-between things. You can read about it in the August Green Witch Forecast.
It feels as though something is ending, and something new is beginning! Therefore, spells that work with these kinds of energies are the best way to go currently.
You can perform spells to close things out and end things, or you can perform spells for new beginnings! There’s a lot to work with here.
Additionally, there’s an energy in the air of abundance and plenty, representing the first harvest. This is when you begin to see the fruit of your labors. Practicing money magick or fertility spells would make sense at this time.
This is the optimal time to work with the fairies to power any spells you put out into the universe! The fey live in the in-between, and experiencing a fairy sighting is highly likely at this time. They are powerful manifestors and great at wishcraft!
I wrote in House Witchcraft: Witchy Goals For My New Home that intention simmer pots have quickly become one of my favorite spells to do! You can make an intention simmer pot to help you through the holiday season. Ask it to bring in new blessings!
Whatever you decide to do, there’s plenty to work with! This holiday season finds you in a bright spot, just before things begin to fade. When I think of the energy of Lammas, I envision yellowed paper faded by the sun.
Warm and Cozy Witchcraft For the Lammas Holiday Season
If you’re looking to work with the pagan holidays, the wheel of the year, and the changing seasons, then you’ve come to the right place! This time of year finds us enjoying the simple pleasures in life and reaping the rewards of the hard work we’ve put in. You can use this to your advantage in your seasonal spellwork!
Think back on the year. What have you been working on? If you’ve been working hard on a project, a small business, or renovating your house, know that you are about to see results.
Additionally, if you started a vegetable or flower garden this year, you may receive your first harvest. The first harvest represents new beginnings, gratitude, and the ultimate dedication.
You might begin to see pumpkins, gourds, squash, and other harvest fruits and vegetables coming in, depending on where you live in the world. There’s something powerful about growing produce!
I recommend working with the fairies in the garden to multiply what you’ve grown. Additionally, I’d work with Gnome Magic, too. Gnomes are friendly, helpful beings that enjoy working with humans.
Another thing you might try is making corn dollies! Corn dollies symbolize the first harvest and the spirit of the corn. You can also make a powerful spell out of them!
I like to purchase my corn dollies versus making them, and I use them for a corn dolly poppet! Poppet magick can be used for the likeness of an individual you’d like to cast a spell on, including yourself. They can be used for both baneful magick and white magick.
If you decide to purchase or make a DIY corn dolly, have a goal in mind! Then, you can spend time putting your intention into the doll and watch the results unfold right before your very eyes.
A corn dolly poppet is a great way to harness the energy of the Lammas Holiday Season! You can use it to either get rid of something or to welcome something into your life. That’s powerful stuff!
Use the holiday to create a fresh bouquet representing the first harvest! You might try a mix of sunflowers, coneflowers, greenery, and naturally picked goldenrod. This warm-toned seasonal mix can be used for a Lammas altar or as a bouquet spell, putting your intention into it as you arrange the blooming mix!
The key to working with the holiday is knowing the magic of it! How do you see Lammas? Use textures, colors, and patterns in your spellwork that bring it to life!
Sunflower Magical Properties
Sunflowers are a hot ticket item during the Lammas holiday! This is their time of year to truly shine as bright as the sun. Sunflowers are cool because they always turn their head towards the sun.
Lammas season and sunflower make a great team! This holiday is all about the golden sun and the festival of light and abundance. The sunflower symbolizes that perfectly.
If you’re a house witch, or even if you're not, you can place sunflowers around your home to bring out the magic of the sunny holiday season while it lasts. You can also create a Lammas-inspired flower bouquet to create the ambiance of the season.
You can also give sunflowers as an offering to your house spirits! I’m sure they would be delighted to receive these long-stemmed golden flowers as a representation of the sun, which they only see through window curtains.
I also find baking sunflower seeds in the oven to be a wonderful tradition for the Lammas celebration! Harvest the mature flower heads and remove the seeds. Let them dry out and bake them in the oven with sea salt, cayenne pepper (for a little zest!), and Old Bay Seasoning at 400 degrees until golden brown.
If you’d like to take it one step further, transform your DIY sunflower seeds into a Lammas spell! Simply put your intention into it as you make it. Think about what you’d like to manifest, and visualize it coming to life through your sunflower seed bake!
What are the magical properties of sunflowers? Since they are symbols of the sun, sunflowers can be used for happiness, childhood magic, nostalgia, and wellness magick!
Farm-to-Table Foods
Since Lammas represents the first harvest, why not use your harvest to make farm-to-table foods? You can use fresh vegetables from the garden, organic herbs, and fruits naturally picked from trees. This is a wonderful way to practice both garden witchcraft and kitchen witchery
If you are unable to grow your own produce, I recommend the next best thing! Hit up the local farmer’s market in your area. This is a great way to support local farmers, as well as treat yourself to fresh, organic food that’s unprocessed.
You can use your intuition to peruse the farmer’s market and choose foods that speak to you on a spiritual level. It’s important to think about the Lammas holiday meal you’d like to make. Then, transform it into a powerful spell!
Always think about what you’d like to manifest first. What is your intention? Is it money magick or a new beginning spell? This will help you put your dinner spell together!
This way, you can practice green kitchen witchcraft in a way that feels more natural! You might find you are attracted to certain types of foods, including ones you’ve never tried before. Let your intuition be your guide!
Another thing you might like to try is a Lammas dinner party to celebrate the holiday! You can choose a flower bouquet from the farmer’s market, put up some fairy lights, make a Lammas playlist, and serve up a delicious farm-to-table meal that everyone will love.
Farmhouse-Style Decorations
This time of year finds us trying new things, so why not try farmhouse-style decorations around the home? You can choose to put up a few things or make it a theme. Maybe, if you’re lucky enough, you live in a farmhouse!
What is farmhouse style? It’s a design aesthetic that’s both charming and rustic! You might use distressed wood furniture, gingham curtains, and comfy surroundings.
How does farmhouse-style and Lammas Holiday go together? For starters, they both have rustic charm! Lammas represents farming, harvests, and festivals of growing and sharing foods. Farmhouse-style simply represents the style and aesthetic of that.
You can choose farmhouse-style pieces for your home, such as barn doors (if you can afford to go big!), rustic farmhouse bouquets placed around the home, a shabby chic table with distressed wood, and vintage trunks and vases. To bring in the spirit of the holiday, hang up a sunflower picture somewhere in your home!
You can also collect farmhouse decor in Mother Nature! Choose wooden branches to hang on the wall, pick wildflowers to make a wild bouquet, naturally shed deer antlers, and place apples, gourds, and pumpkins around the home. You can wildcraft many of these ingredients!
While you are wildcrafting for farmhouse-style ingredients, you can transform them into a powerful farmhouse spell! Let your intuition guide you to items in nature, and put your intention into them as you go along. Then, place them in your basket to take home.
When you get home, strategically place your naturally shed items around the home, creating that farmhouse decor feel! Be sure to put your intention into each item as you hang it up, place it in vases, or throw it on the floor. This will only work to amplify your spell!
As you can see, farmhouse-style can be transformed into a Lammas Holiday spell! Decorating and setting things out for the holiday brings your manifestation to the table.
The Magick of Lammas Holiday Season
The magick of the Lammas Holiday Season is in the farming, agriculture, and rustic charm of the first harvest! It can be found in the natural items found in Mother Nature.
You find it in vegetable gardens, apple orchards, and fields of sunflowers. That same kind of magick can be found in farmers’ markets, where homemade goods are gifted.
This holiday is about family and friends, sitting around the table sharing the cornucopia of goods you’ve collected during spring and summer. It’s about community, sharing, and celebrating in the first harvest. Most of all, it’s about the golden light of summer fading fast, and autumn closing in. Are you ready?
