The House Spirits Tiny Handbook
The House Spirits Tiny Handbook covers house spirit offerings, house spirit witchcraft, and domestic goddesses with Plants By Laurali! No matter where you go, no matter where you live, there are spirits that reside in your place of residence. Whether you live in a house, an apartment, or live in a house van while you travel the country, the house spirits are always with you!
What are house spirits? House spirits are helpful faery-like creatures who live in the home and perform tasks for you. Additionally, there’s also the spirit of the house, which is the house spirit as a whole entity.
In How to Be a House Witch, I discuss how you can bond with your home and teach you how to connect with your house spirits. Today, I’ve created the House Spirits Tiny Handbook to dive deeper into this topic.
When I think of house spirits, I think of warm and cozy brownies! Brownies are often described as brown, sometimes hairy little creatures who protect the home. The brownies are the ones who carry out tasks and keep the household running smoothly.
Other benevolent house spirits will often take residence in your home. I’ve seen small, fairy-like winged creatures before, as well as plant spirits, ghosts, and domestic goddesses of all kinds.
The key is to welcome benevolent spirits into your home! There are many ways in which you can do that, which we’ll discuss in a moment. House spirits don’t need an invitation, but the more benevolent spirits you welcome in, the better!
What if you’ve moved into a house that’s been around for a while? In this case, preexisting house spirits will already occupy space in your residence. It’s your job to get to know them and to win their favor.
If it’s a brand-new home, you can first start with the spirit of the house itself. Each dwelling comes with an already built-in house spirit, but it’s your job to invite reinforcements in. You can do that by creating spells and rituals that will make them feel right at home.
If you are a green hearth witch, much of your witchcraft magic is performed within the home! This includes the interior of the home, as well as any gardens, yards, and patios that you have on the exterior of your place.
If you’d like to tap into the magick of hearth witchcraft, you are going to want to make friends with the spirits of your house! This means leaving friendly offerings and thank you notes, showing respect, and practicing green kitchen witch sustainability.
The house spirits are to be revered! They can provide you with magical hygiene tips for the home, as well as create goodwill energy to visitors. When people walk into your home, they will instantly feel uplifted, joyful, and full of goodwill if you so desire.
These are just a few of the things that the house spirits can help you with regularly! I have found them to be helpful for house finding spells, when you’d like to change residence, as well as improving your current home and living situation.
The house spirit can also help you with moving spells, put into place to help you make your new house a home! They create a warm, cozy, and comfy environment in which you can live out your days with ease.
I adore my house spirits! I moved into my boyfriend’s home at the end of June, and they’ve been helping me with the adjustment. I’m fortunate that he lived right next door to my old place, and when I moved, I brought my house spirits with me to engage with my new ones.
The house spirits, as it turns out, will become your greatest allies and friends! When you make friends with a house spirit, you make a friend for life. Where you lead, they will follow!
The House Spirits Tiny Handbook
I created the House Spirits Tiny Handbook as a wellspring of information on how to interact with house spirits! I’ve found that house spirits bring good energy into the home, creating the art of bliss.
The house spirits are essentially fairies, first and foremost. The brownies are a type of household spirit better known as a fairy. In addition to that, winged fairies (think Tinkerbell) can often be found in the home. My youngest daughter used to see them all the time in our old house!
To tune into fairies, you can often see them with the gift of sight, meaning in the mind’s eye. You can also tune into their frequency, which means you’ll be able to feel their presence, as well as see them in the still-frame corners of your mind.
I’ve often found that if your house has bad energy or something feels off, there may be some neglect going on. This problem can be resolved by decluttering and cleansing the home on a deep physical and spiritual level. Your thoughts about the home you live in can affect the way it treats you.
It’s a system of getting what you give. The house spirits will help those who help themselves. If you work with the house spirits, you will successfully achieve symbiosis!
If you hate the home you live in, try looking at it from a fresh perspective! Try doing things to love, honor, and respect your home. I guarantee this will create a turnaround in what you experience in your household.
Alternatively, if you are someone in your household has been sinking into the depths of depression, suicidal ideation, negativity, and high anxiety, the house spirits will hold onto that energy. It will sink into every nook and cranny of your place of dwelling.
To remedy that, you’ll want to get some outside help! It’s important to treat the mundane first by speaking with a mental health professional. Then, slowly start working on the dark corners of the home that were created by long-term mental illness.
In this case, a good old-fashioned cleansing will be in order! Some people like to sage, call on benevolent spirits, and declutter their homes. I like to make an intention simmer pot, do some deep cleaning, pray, and use Florida water in every dark corner of the home.
In How to Be a House Witch, I teach you how to make your own Florida water. What is Florida water? Made from the 1800s, Florida water is a light, citrusy, perfume scent that is made from citrus fruits, botanicals, and rubbing alcohol.
It uplifts the energy in spaces in the home, car, and any physical place that is needed! Some people, namely tarot readers, use it to cleanse between readings.
At the end of the day, it always comes back to working with the spirits of your home, whether they be house goblins, winged fairies, brownies, or even ghosts that have attached themselves to the place. You’ve got to find a way to make it friendly and hospitable.

Domestic Goddesses
Goddess Nemetona - She is the goddess of sacred spaces! I keep a picture of her up in every home I live in. Wherever I go, she goes! To work with the Goddess Nemetona, I recommend placing a picture of her on a wall somewhere in your house that you consider a sacred space. The picture must be something you resonate with, as every time you look at it, you will draw energy from it. Invite Nemetona into your space, and she will live here with you forever!
Goddess Vesta - She is the Roman goddess of hearth and home! I create a tiny kitchen cabinet altar for her in every home I live in. I add a pentagram, a tiny statue or small representation of her, and add bottles of her favorite oils. I’ve discovered she likes avocado oil and olive oil the most. To work with Goddess Vesta, you must pray to her while you are whipping up a recipe, cutting vegetables, or doing household chores.
Goddess Hestia - She is the Greek goddess of hearthcraft! I haven’t worked with her a great deal, but I would describe her energy as nurturing and motherly. She is highly protective of those she works with. To work with Goddess Hestia, I recommend researching her. Read books about her, invite her into your home, and make household plans with her.
Saint Bridget - She is the triple goddess of the arts, metal witchcraft, and green hearthcraft practices! To work with the magic of Saint Bridget, you might like to add some candles to your home. Candle magick and the fire element pair well with this fiery hearth goddess! You can dress up the candles with metals, since metalsmithing is something she excels at, as well as martian herbs like cayenne pepper, paprika, and tobacco.
Goddess Aphrodite - She is the goddess of love, beauty, and money! She is highly connected to the planet Venus. To work with the Goddess Aphrodite, focus on the bathroom area, particularly the bathtub or shower. You can transform it into an altar with seashells, trinkets, mirrors, and pearls. She will love the personal touches! You can invite her to watch over any body of water in your home, whether it be a shower, bathtub, swimming pool, or backyard pond.
