Plants By Laurali Metal Witchcraft: The Metai Element

Metal Witchcraft: The Metal Element covers metalsmithing, enchanting jewelry, and Saint Bridget Magick with Plants by Laurali! This is part of my spellcraft series on the four elements and the Chinese elements, and how to use them in the craft.

When I think of metal witchcraft, I think of jewelry making! I think of welding, metalworking, and creating works of art out of metal. Metal pairs well with the fire element, as fire is often needed to melt metals.

Most of all, metal magick reminds me of Saint Bridget! Saint Bridget is the triple goddess of fire, metalsmithing, and arts and crafts. Saint Bridget’s sacred day is February 1st, on Imbolc Holiday.

Metals are the Chinese elements most known for flexibility and malleability. Metals can be melted down and transformed into things like jewelry, tools, coins, cutlery, and weapons. There are so many things that are made out of metal!

Popular metals include gold, silver, copper, platinum, and iron. You can use metal to create iron garden gates and metal statuary for the garden. Metal is often featured in the industrial part of town.

You can use metal to enchant your nature-inspired accessories! You can use a metal piece of jewelry to create an amulet to ward off negative forces and create protection. You can use metal jewelry to create a talisman to attract good luck and great fortune.

In Chinese feng shui witchcraft, the metal element is often used for purification, structure, and to create boundaries. Metal also fills in the spaces in between, often known as the liminal spaces.

Metal magick is also known for release. Metal is associated with the autumn months when the natural world begins to die off and let go. Think of what you need to let go of when working with the metal element.

When working with the metal element, it’s important to note that metal is associated with the lungs and the large intestine. If these are areas in your body that need healing, metal is the healing remedy to turn to!

With metal witchcraft, things take shape! It often denotes shapeshifting, change, and transformation. It is often associated with the death season of life. You might find yourself experiencing an ending when the desire to work with the metal element becomes real.

Metal is one of those elements that I find comforting! I mainly work with the metal element through jewelry magick, but wearing something close to me or on my person makes me feel safe, warm, and loved. Metal is a loving element!

As you can see, metal witchcraft can be used for many creative endeavors! If you are a metalsmith of sorts, you might find yourself drawn to working with the metal element, as it tends to make you feel whole and complete. The metal element is often known for unity and completion, as it is associated with the circle shape!

Metal Witchcraft: The Metal Element

Using the metal element in your green hearthcraft practice can create adaptability and creativity! It’s one of the elements that is commonly used everywhere but is less known.

On the surface, metal appears cold and distant, but if you scratch beneath the surface, you will find that metal is comforting and charismatic. There’s something magical about touching a metal surface. It is cool to the touch!

I use metal all of the time in my craft! I often use it to bless the car t’m driving for safe and pleasant travels. Beyond that, I use metal for jewelry enchantments, to collect metal pieces I find randomly, and for my ritual tools.

Metal can also be used to create boundaries and protective barriers. Placing a horseshoe over your doorframe will bring you luck, while dangerous fey and demons are repelled by iron.

Copper can also be used as a healing remedy for various ailments, as well as to promote energy circulation. Metals are phenomenal physical and mental healers of the spirit world!

Metal is malleable, therefore, it can be used for whatever your heart’s desire! It’s the rosemary of the six elements in Chinese medicine. Metal can be used in many different kinds of spells and adapted in unique ways.

For example, if you’d like to do a money spell, you might use gold to increase prosperity! I often use a gold bowl for spells and rituals.

You’ve heard of alchemy, haven’t you? Metal was born for magical uses! The metal element is the blending of metal liquids that are heated down to create something new and different.

You can often find this featured on two major arcana tarot cards. The Magician Tarot Card represents the alchemist with all of the resources and tools at his disposal. The Temperance Tarot Card denotes balance and the blending of two different types of energies to make something new.

I highly recommend using the metal element in your craft! You don’t have to get into metalsmithing to do it, either. You can start with small metal objects to enchant, such as jewelry and trinkets made of metal.

You can also keep small pieces of metal you find on walks until you have an entire collection! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve discovered cool metal pieces just walking around my neighborhood. People lose things, and it then becomes your treasure.

You can incorporate collected metal pieces into your craft by doing a flatlay spell on a countertop, table, or desk. In this case, you can add tarot cards that pick up on the significant energy of the metals, such as the Magician Tarot Card or the Temperance Tarot Card.

Keeping cool metal pieces in a charm bag is a great way to connect with Saint Bridget's Magick! She is known for her metalworking skills and crafting. Find six metal pieces and give them meaning, and place them in a charm bag for protection, beauty, and to enhance natural talents and abilities.

The wonderful thing about metal is that it’s malleable and flexible, therefore, you give meaning to the metal pieces you put together! Working with metal magick teaches you how adaptable life can be.

As you can see, working with the metal element brings fresh perspectives on life! It holds the ability to help you see things in unique and different ways, helping you to step outside your comfort zone, yet still making you feel safe and comfortable.
