Plants By Laurali Goddess Fortuna and the Cornucopia Symbol

Goddess Fortuna and the Cornucopia Symbol covers kitchen witchcraft for the Thanksgiving holiday and kitchen good luck charms with Plants By Laurali! The horn of plenty is often a symbol of wealth, prosperity, and an abundance of plenty of food.

While Fortuna is best known for fate, fortune, and good luck, I’ve come to find she can be integrated into hearthcraft, especially in the kitchen. This is not something she’s typically known for, but at one time, she was considered a household deity.

The cornucopia symbolizes nourishment, farm-to-table recipes, and kitchen magick that is earthy, grounded, and downright good for the soul. Goddess Fortuna represents plentitude in all material things.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I couldn’t help but think of Fortuna’s horn of plenty. It is often filled with harvest foods, such as root vegetables, nuts, gourds, mini pumpkins, fruits, and flowers. It is filled with all good things!

Fortuna is very much a goddess of the people. She was ubiquitous in Roman households and brought good luck to those less fortunate. If she looked favorably upon you, she would ensure you had plenty of food to get you through the harsh winter months.

Fortuna controls fate and blind fortune. The people of ancient Rome knew this, and as a modern green hearth witch, I have experienced it in spades.

The cornucopia symbolizes something that can be filled with plenty of material things. Much as in everyday life, we can choose what goes into our cornucopia, while Fortuna decides how much we receive.

As an agricultural deity, it makes perfect sense that Goddess Fortuna would be associated with food and giving thanks. Farmers would work with the Goddess Fortuna to bring good luck to their crops and protect them. She is also associated with the third harvest, around the time of the Samhain holiday.

If you want to know what it feels like to work with Goddess Fortuna, start from a place of sincerity and humbleness. She appreciates honesty and a heartfelt prayer. Work with her during the Thanksgiving holiday by filling a cornucopia with her favorite things.

Besides food, you could fill a cornucopia with coins, lucky omens, and anything else that you think she might like. You can place it on her altar or use it as a Thanksgiving dinner centerpiece.

The cornucopia symbolizes wealth, prosperity, abundance, and nourishment. Nothing says abundance like a copious amount of food! Fortuna can ensure that food will always be on your table.

Goddess Fortuna and the Cornucopia Symbol

The cornucopia became a symbol of overflowing bounty, and over time, it has also come to be associated with Thanksgiving, a time to give thanks for all we have. Fortuna, as the goddess of luck and fortune, can bring an abundance of anything into your life, whether it be food, material things, or actual money.

As someone who has gone without money and meals in the past, I must admit that this was part of my attraction to forging a relationship with Lady Luck. I’ve always associated being able to purchase a plentiful supply of groceries and essentials with abundance.

There are many people all over the world who do without or simply can’t afford organic, plant-based healing foods. I used to be one of those people until Goddess Fortuna came into my life. Buying groceries or growing and harvesting fruits and vegetables is a privilege not everyone has access to.

Fortuna brings good luck and great fortune to every area of your life! This includes the kitchen, where we prepare our meals and break bread with family and friends. There are no limits to what she can do!

She has become a driving force in my life, continually encouraging me to do better and build wealth. If I become a symbol of wealth, much like the horn of plenty, then I can share my wealth with others.

Think about what wealth and abundance mean to you. Having basic needs met —food, shelter, and other essentials— makes you feel like a million bucks!

Fortuna can offer you all of that and so much more! In addition to providing the essentials, she can help you build wealth, invest, and purchase a home. She goes above and beyond for her patrons!

Kitchen Witchcraft for the Thanksgiving Holiday

There are always things to be grateful for on Thanksgiving, and one of the things I’m thankful for is working with Fortuna in the kitchen! Because she is my patron goddess and best friend, I’ve incorporated her throughout my household.

I also fill her cornucopia with the flowers, fruits, and vegetables that I know she likes, and set it on the counter. I live in a tiny studio apartment, so Thanksgiving will be at my parents’ place. As I add each item to the cornucopia, I tell her something that I’m grateful for, and put my intention into it.

Since Thanksgiving is all about family and friends, you can transform Thanksgiving dinner into a spell of sorts. Set your intention. Do you want more family togetherness, protection, and healing?

Whenever I cook meals, no matter how small or mundane, I put my intention into it. If I cook with eggs, I transform them into a protection spell for myself or a loved one. If it’s brownies, I put the intention of love into it.

Choose kitchen witchcraft ingredients that correlate with the magic of the spell. If you’d like a Thanksgiving everyone will remember fondly, add rosemary to a dish! If you’d like to bring people together, use pie ingredients to compile a spell, and mix things together.

Since kitchen witchcraft for the Thanksgiving holiday is all about gratitude magic, leave a gratitude jar out, which, in return, acts as a spell jar of sorts, bringing wishes to life! Leave out a marker and scraps of paper, and have everyone write at least one thing they are grateful for.

This is a great way to bring family and friends together! People can randomly pull a scrap of paper out of the gratitude jar and read it aloud. It’s a nice way to give thanks!

Having someone pray over the food and give a blessing is also a great way to honor the gods! If you believe in many gods and your family doesn’t, ask the gods to bless the food in silence or in private. You can also give your deities an offering at the beginning of the day.

Since Goddess Fortuna is my patron goddess, I’ll make her a tiny plate of food with a wine libation and set it on my counter for her to relish and enjoy! I like making her part of the holidays, especially since I have so much to thank her for.

Kitchen holiday witchcraft can be a fun way to bring magick into family gatherings! By blessing the food, you and your loved ones will be ingesting the blessing. If you give leftovers to the family pet, they, too, will be ingesting blessings right along with you!

Kitchen Good Luck Charms

What are kitchen good luck charms? They are often used to bring good luck and blessings into the home, ward off bad energies, and offer the protection of an amulet. Every kitchen should have good luck charms!

As an aspiring kitchen witch myself, I keep a kitchen witch doll hanging in my kitchen. It’s a type of poppet used to ward off evil spirits and protect the food you’re prepping, baking, or cooking. It can also be used to keep a pot from boiling over.

You can make your own kitchen witch poppet to hang, or purchase one! Etsy has many great shops that make handmade poppets. You can infuse the kitchen poppet with your energy once it arrives, much as you would enchant nature-inspired accessories.

I would also consider the cornucopia a symbol of good luck, as it represents Goddess Fortuna’s fortune and favor. Keeping one in the kitchen or as a dining table centerpiece ensures abundance year-round!

Many people also hang an upside-down horseshoe above the kitchen entrance to welcome good luck, like a greeting! Having the lucky horseshoe omen hanging upside down brings good luck to anyone who passes underneath it.

I also keep my master root in my kitchen, which also acts as a poppet of sorts. I’ve infused mine with success and victory, and since I work most of my magick in the kitchen, I break off tiny pieces of the root to use in spells. I’ve also added a bow to make it look more like a kitchen poppet.

For abundance and great fortune, I often keep a basketful of apples or oranges on the counter or in my refrigerator. Both apples and oranges represent money magick and material plenty.

There are many ways to bring kitchen good luck charms into your home! They can be used as a talisman or a protective amulet, depending on what you are trying to achieve.

Working with Fortuna in the kitchen brings abundance into the household! Goddess Fortuna and the cornucopia go hand-in-hand together for the Thanksgiving holiday.
