The Shadow Work Witchcraft Field Guide
This is the shadow work witchcraft field guide for witchcraft psychology with Plants By Laurali! Shadowwork is a psychological term for the parts of the psyche we keep hidden from ourselves. In witchcraft, we learn to embrace our shadow selves!
Doing shadow work is essential to witchcraft because it helps you better understand yourself! There’s no better exploration of yourself than venturing into botanical studies. Each herb, crystal, mushroom, moon phase, and seasonal shift brings us that much closer to the truth.
What is shadow work? Shadow work means digging into the confines of the mind and finding the parts that are kept secret and hidden. This can be painful, ugly, and sometimes uncomfortable. Once you accept your shadow self, you’ll integrate it into your psyche and it becomes part of you.
Here’s the thing: Your dark self has always been part of you. It’s just that you were never able to accept it before or see it for what it is.
To explore your shadow self, start thinking of the secrets or hidden things you would never want anyone to know. These are the things that bring shame, guilt, and regret. Bring your dark self into the light!
The Shadow Work Witchcraft Field Guide
How does one go about doing shadow work? I find that it’s important to work on your shadow self by the phases of the moon, the seasons, and during a planetary retrograde. You can do shadow work anytime you want, but these are the times when you’ll be called to your shadow!
During Imbolc Holiday, for example, I always do shadow work. This is a quiet time of darkness, reflection, and journaling. It’s a holiday for learning new things about yourself and going within.
You can use witchy holidays, solstices, and equinoxes to work on your dark self. These are moments when the wheel turns again, bringing new information to light, which is what shadow work is all about.
During the moon phases, there is ample opportunity for learning, growing, and developing your witchy intuition. Many witches use the moon phases to guide them to the truth within.
During planetary retrogrades, you might find your shadow self called into being! When planets go retrograde, they appear to be moving backward in the sky. Retrogrades slow things down and create time for healing, contemplation, and spiritual awakenings.
Another period for shadow work would be during eclipse season. Eclipse Season is all about waking up the conscious collective, transformation, change, and turning points. You can learn a lot about yourself and your relationships during an eclipse!
To go about doing shadow work, you are going to spend time with yourself! You’d be surprised how many people don’t enjoy their own company. As a solitary green witch, I love spending time by myself, especially in Mother Nature, where I know I’m not completely alone!

Mushroom Witchcraft: Using Mushrooms in Spellcraft
This is a blog post on Mushroom Witchcraft: Using Mushrooms in Spellcraft that can be used for weight loss spells and healing magic with Plants By Laurali! Mushrooms are a community and communication system of decomposers that can assist with a myriad of problems, including the kind that can only be solved using magic.
When I think of mushrooms, I think of fairy rings! Most people do. We eat them in our food, we use them for grounding rituals, and we use mushrooms as a Hekate Mushroom Key! By we, I mean witches.
Mushrooms are magical and not just for the hallucinogenic properties some mushrooms carry. Mushrooms are associated with the earth element. This is the earthy, grounded, steadfast energy we have come to know as Mother Nature.
It is said that if you come across a mushroom, fairies must be nearby! I’ve never encountered a fairy ring, but I have encountered fungi communities and the fae folk who live amongst the trees and leaves.
In witchcraft, mushrooms have both medicinal and magical purposes! They can be used for health and wellness spells, especially. In addition to that, they can be crafted for weight loss spells.
As decomposers, they decompose the problem, reducing it to nothing! For fat loss, they decompose and make the weight fall right off of you. Mushrooms are potent, powerful, and in my opinion, extremely underrated!
When I think of green witchcraft, I think of plants, trees, mushrooms, gemstones, and animal life. I think of seasons, weather, and holidays. None of this would be complete without the magic of mushrooms.
Fungi communities are most prevalent in the late summer and autumn seasons when many places experience their monsoon season. Here, in Florida, where I live, mushrooms can be found year-round due to the wet, humid conditions.
What’s cool and interesting about the mushroom season is that within a day or two, an entire community can be brought down. Nature is always moving in cycles and fungi communities are no exception to that. The wonder of mushrooms is that they are here one day and gone the next!
Mushroom Witchcraft: Using Mushrooms in Spellcraft
Let’s talk about how to use the magic of mushrooms in spellcraft, shall we? As a witchcraft practitioner, mushrooms can boost your spellwork on many different levels.
First and foremost, if you would like to work with the fae, then mushrooms might be your cup of tea. They are associated with fairy rings, which are magical, mystical, and celebratory. If fae magic is something that catches your eye, then incorporating mushrooms into your magic only makes sense.
Secondly, are you into left-hand witchcraft? Do you enjoy diminishing problems and banishing things? Then, working with poisonous mushrooms might be a good fit for you! You might be a curse-positive witch and that’s perfectly okay.
Third, mushrooms can be used to make keys! What do keys do? They open and unlock doors, gates, and pathways. Mushrooms are magical and can be dried out and preserved to make a Hekate Mushroom Key!
Fourth, mushrooms can be used as a spell ingredient in any spell or natural remedy you like. A long-stemmed mushroom can even be used as a DIY Green Kitchen Witch Wand when cooking plant-based meals!
Fifth, mushrooms can be used in plant-based meals or as the meal itself. Make stuffed mushrooms, and portabella mushroom pizzas, and add mushrooms to your magical salads. Mushrooms can be used by the kitchen witch!
Sixth, mushrooms can be used for grounding rituals! Holding a mushroom in your hand (be sure it is non-poisonous and safe!) can ground your energy after performing any kind of magical spell or ritual.
Last, mushrooms can be used as decomposers to eliminate health problems and fat loss. If you’d like to create a Mushroom Decomposer Wellness Spell Jar or a Mushroom Decomposer Weight Loss Spell Jar, keep reading! You’ll find information on how to put these mushroom decomposer jars together using magic.
